Robin Green, Site Manager at Sarisbury Allotment Site, reports:
Sarisbury Allotment managers are grateful to the Warsash Horticultural Society for permitting plot holders to submit flower and vegetable exhibits in the Warsash Garden Show, held on Saturday 4th September at the Victory Hall.
Sarisbury plot holders, including John and Pam Barber, Abigail Harrison, Ben and Maria Kimble, Penny Daish and site manager Robin Green all submitted exhibits for judging against stiff competition but attracted a glittering array of 1st and 2nd prizes.
The ‘star of the show’ however was Penny Daish (see left), Plot 26A, whose C11 exhibit of ‘5 vegetables in a seed tray’ attracted the ‘Best in Show Cup’ presented by Dr Chris Gorham, President of the Warsash HS. When she learned of her success, Penny, who couldn’t be at the event, said ‘I’m stunned!’
The biennial ‘Show’ had been postponed for a year as the result of COVID restrictions but the Victory Hall was soon packed with dozens of members of the local community who queued for entry at 2pm, eager to take advantage of the ‘Plant Sale’, see the exhibits of flowers, vegetables, photograhs, cakes and preserves, how they had been judged, as well as enjoying the tombola and a cup of tea and delicious home-made cakes.
