Allotment Competition 2018

Here is your chance to win a prize in The Hampshire Federation of Horticultural Societies' Allotment Competition 2018The Competition, which will be assessed by Federation Judges, is open to all members of affiliated Societies and consists of two Sections:

Plots of less than 10 rods (300sq yards/250sq metres) and

Plots of 10 rods and over.

AWARDS/PRIZES:

Challenge Cups are awarded annually to the Section Winners with Cash Prizes in Section 1: 1st - £20, 2nd - £15 and 3rd – £10 and Section 2: 1st - £30, 2nd - £20 and 3rd - £15.

Diplomas are awarded as follows: top 7% of the combined results – Diploma of Special Merit, next 15% - Diploma of Merit.

Charity Plant Sale - Saturday 16th May

UPDATE FROM JENNIE: I just thought I would let you know the pop up plant stall was a great success, we sold out and reached the grand total of £127.50...I am thrilled and I know SFHT will appreciate it enormously.  Thank you for your support and let’s hope we will be strolling around some wonderful gardens again before too long.

Charity Plant Sale - Colette and Jenny are holding a charity plant sale outside their house @ 15 the farthings, on the locks heath sports club recreation ground adjacent to your allotments on Saturday 16th May. All proceeds go to the ‘Hampshire Stables Family Home Trust’ for vulnerable people with learning difficulties. Please circulate this to your people you know who may have excess plants/flowers etc which they would be willing to donate to this worthy cause. Kindest regards Colette and Jenny @ 8 the farthings. Could you be Britain's Best Home Cook?

The BBC are working on the second series of Britain's Best Home Cook and are currently looking for new fabulous home cooks who might want to apply to be on the BBC1 show.  There must be loads of great cooks amongst you, growing lots of amazing vegetables so why not give it a go?  And while you are at it check out the Allotment Road Facebook  group  https://www.facebook.com/groups/333805260523024/.  Let us know if you would like us to set up a similar group for the whole of the Western Wards Allotment Association.

Charles Dowding Talk on no-dig gardening - 23rd March

No dig veg, no weeds

  

Hedge End Allotments will be hosting a talk by Charles Dowding, leading authority on no-dig gardening, on 23rd March 2019.

Charles' talk explains the benefits of no dig, why it works, how to start and how to continue.  Reduce your weeding, have more time for gardening.  Illustrated with slides of Homeacres garden. It includes advice on making and using compost plus tips on easier ways to grow great veg, including propagation and picking.

Greenhouse for Sale
